Mikey Way's Life

Mikey Way's full name is Michael James Way. He was born in September 10, 1980 in Newark, New Jersey, where he grew up. Mikey is the younger brother of Gerard Way. If you don't know this Mikey is related to Joe Rogan which is the host of the NBC game/stunt show Fear Factor and former cast member of the sitcom News Radio (Joe is Mikey’s mother’s cousin’s son). The first concert he ever went to was a Smashing Pumpkins concert.

Mikey is the bassist of the band and he only learned bass in order to play in his brother’s band. He plays both A Highway 1 Precision Bass, and a Fender Standard Precision Bass. Mikey Way dropped out of college so he can play in the band, My Chemical Romance with his brother. He came up with the band name which came from an Irvine Welsh novel Ecstasy, Three Tales of Chemical Romance. Mikey auditioned for Frank Iero’s (Frank is the rhythm guitarist for My Chemical Romance) band, Pencey Prep. He didn't make it. For the first couple of shows, Mikey Way drank liquor heavily to hide his extreme stage fright. So still today, Mikey resides with Frank when the band is recording.

His favorite band is Anthrax, and he sometimes wears his signature Anthrax shirt. Mikey is a recoverying iPod junkie and an iPod battery hoarder. His favorite-all-time food is sushi and he even says that he could eat his body weight in sushi. Schlock horror films is his absolute favorite. Mikey loves unicorns, and he has a pet cat named Bunny Marie Way, which he love a lot. Bunny even has a myspace. But the things that he hates is small spaces, large and open spaces, and shopping for groceries.

Mikey is engaged to Alicia Simmons. Alicia is a guitar tech and merch seller among other things. She played surrogate guitarist for From First to Last in 2005. Mikey and Alicia got matching tattoos on their wrists. The tattoos consist of a heart shaped jar with flames emitting from it, across the jar reads, “FOREVER”.

The younger Way’s trademark was his glasses, but that all changed in May of 2006. Mikey got Lasik eye surgery that corrected his nearsightedness and made the glasses useless. He no longer wears glasses.
